Questions & Answers - BA Course

Which BA courses does Jenoptik offer?
In association with regional universities of cooperative education, Jenoptik offers technical and commercial BA courses. More information on the BA courses can be found by clicking on courses.

When does the BA course start?
Study usually begins in October each year. Whether you then start at the university of cooperative education immediately or spend the first few months in the company is dependent on the course and the university of cooperative education you study at.

How long is the BA course?
The course lasts 6 semesters. As a rule, you spend 3 months at the university of cooperative education and 3 months in the company per semester.

Which school-leaving qualifications do I need for a BA course?
To study at a university of cooperative education, you require the general certificate of aptitude for higher education.

Which qualifications are considered important for potential BA students?
To obtain a place at a university of cooperative education, you require the general certificate of aptitude for higher education. We also lay great store by good to excellent grades and knowledge of foreign languages, especially English. Depending on the field of work and location, further foreign languages may be important.
However, good grades are not the deciding factor alone. Above all, you should enjoy your tasks and bring with you genuine interest in your course. You should be able to get involved in a dynamic team in which you inspire yourself and others and advance projects together. Further important requirements are flexibility, the ability to cope under pressure, and organizational and communication skills.

When can I apply for a BA course?
You should apply to us around 9 to 12 months before the course begins.

How can I apply for a BA course?
You can search for study places by clicking on job vacancies. Then choose the target group “BA Student” in the selection box and click on “Search”. This will display all vacant study places.
When you have found a suitable study place and would now like to apply for it, simply click on the “Apply Online” link at the foot of the vacancy description. This leads you directly to the online application form.
In the online application form, enter your personal data, the earliest date on which you can commence study, the course you are interested in, and your language and IT/EDP skills. Each of these points has its own section. Fields marked with an asterisk* or a red exclamation mark are obligatory. You must fill out these fields to move on to the next section. All other information is voluntary.
In the final section of the online application form, you can upload your supporting application materials. These include your photo, cover letter, résumé, your last two high school report cards, training certificates, work references and other certificates. You can upload the materials in any format.
After filling out the application form and uploading your supporting materials, you can send the application to us by clicking on “Send Application”. A few minutes after sending your application, we will confirm to you by e-mail that we have received it.

You want to find out more about the application process? Click on Application to obtain useful information and tips on all aspects of the application process and the supporting application materials.

Can I also submit a speculative application for a BA course?
Speculative applications for BA courses are not possible.

If I have not received my high-school diploma by the application closing date, can I submit it later?
When you apply to us, you attach your last two high-school report cards. Certificates you receive only after having applied to us can be submitted at a later date.

What happens after my application materials are received?
After receiving your application, we look at your documents and get an initial impression of you. If you have impressed us, we will invite you to an aptitude test and personal interview. Both take place on the same day. We then decide which applicant will receive the study place.

What can I expect at the interview?
At the interview, we want to get to know you better and find out more about your skills and desired course of study. We will ask you to tell us something about yourself and your choice of course. You should describe why you would like to pursue this course in particular and why you have selected Jenoptik as a practice partner. We would also like to know what you enjoy doing and what you can do well. Simply remember the following: “I want to show them that I am the right person for the study place.” Then there’s really nothing that can go wrong.

How can I prepare for the interview and aptitude test?
There are various ways to prepare yourself for the interview and aptitude test:
  • specialist literature on the subject of aptitude tests and interviews
  • Careers Information Center (BIZ) of the employment agency
  • the Federal Institute for Vocational Training (BiBB)
  • chambers of commerce and industry (IHK)
  • the wide resources of the internet

Can I apply to you even though I have already started training/a university course?
Yes, as long as you meet all the conditions (general certificate of aptitude for higher education, good diploma), you can still apply to us after starting training/a university course. The extent to which study periods already completed are taken into account is determined on a case-by-case basis.
