How long does professional training last? Can the period of training be shortened?Training lasts from 3 to 3.5 years. What is especially important when applying for a training position? The online application folder, i.e. the completed online application form and attached supporting application materials, give us an initial impression of you. It is therefore important that the documents are complete and contain no contradictions. For example, the cover letter should match up with your résumé. Certificates must also accord with the résumé. In addition, we should be able to establish why you have chosen Jenoptik and the particular occupation from your application.
How important are my grades when applying for a training position?Your grades in German and math are particularly important to us. Depending on which skilled occupation you apply for, we also look at how good you are at, for example, physics or English. However, good grades are not the deciding factor alone. Extracurricular activities or practical experience are also important requirements. Above all, you should enjoy your tasks and working in a team. And if you like learning new things, are fascinated by ideas and sometimes tricky problems, you are well prepared for training with us.
When can I apply for a training position? You should apply to us around 10 to 12 months before training begins. The exact application deadlines can be found in the vacancy advertisements.

What happens once you have received my application? After receiving your application, we look at your documents and get an initial impression of you. If you have impressed us, we will invite you to an aptitude test and personal interview. Both take place on the same day. We then decide which applicant will receive the training position.
What can I expect at the interview? At the interview, we want to get to know you better and find out more about your skills and desired occupation. We will ask you to tell us a little about yourself and your choice of occupation. You should describe why you would like to learn this profession in particular and why you have selected Jenoptik as a training company. How is training organized at Jenoptik?Regardless of which training position you choose, all training occupations offer you diverse and demanding tasks. So that you can get to know as much as possible about the company and learn how the different departments and divisions cooperate, you will be placed in a range of areas during your period of training. There, you will be supported by your colleagues, trainers and fellow trainees at all times.
Alongside the specialist knowledge you need for your occupation, you also learn specific methods and techniques during training which make it easier for you to deal with future tasks and encourage your personal development. Detailed information on the content of our training positions, the requirements and the possibilities for further development can be found by clicking on Skilled Occupations. The chamber of commerce (IHK) also offers valuable information on this.
Where does the vocational school training take place? Is there in-house teaching during my training? The exact course of vocational school training depends on the training occupation and the vocational school you are trained at. For example, teaching may be given as block sessions. In this case, you spend 3 weeks at school and 6 weeks in the company in each training year. Another possibility is so-called part-time teaching, i.e. you have 1-2 days of school a week and work in the company for the remaining time.
The structure of in-house teaching is also dependent on the skilled occupation. You will receive more information on vocational school, teaching and the course of training at personal interview.
Will I be taken on after my training? We are happy to offer trainees a position on completion of their training. Whether you are actually taken on or not is of course dependent on your achievements at the school and in the company. For this reason, we can only decide on employment shortly before you complete your training.
Can I apply to you even though I have already started training/a university course? Yes, as long as you meet all the conditions for training at Jenoptik, you can still apply to us after starting training/a university course. The extent to which study periods already completed are taken into account is determined on a case-by-case basis.
