Intelligent speed enforcement with vehicle classification

The “TraffiSection” system is designed for both long-term fixed applications (e.g. on bridges) and for short-term portable operation. The basic system can be complemented using client-specific modules such as driver face recognition, connection to an available Variable Message Sign (VMS) system or classification of various vehicle types.

“TraffiSection” is able to differentiate between 11 different vehicle classes such as cars, cars with trailers, trucks or busses and considers their different speed limits. The vehicle classes can be adapted to country-specific requirements.

The basic principle of the “TraffiSection” point-to-point (P2P) measurement system is the recognition of vehicle number plates at the entry and exit portals. These data can be encrypted at the camera if necessary and thereby transmitted anonymously.

On the basis of the known distance between the two portals and the time needed by each vehicle to transit the section, the system calculates the average speed over the section. The data collected at the entry and exit portals as well as the driver image (optional) are compiled into a data set and transmitted to the client.

“TraffiSection” was developed on the basis of highly specialized and globally approved camera systems for use in road traffic. The camera systems have high-performance infrared lighting invisible to the human eye, allowing both daytime and nighttime operation as well as during inclement weather conditions.
