Optical freeform surfaces are not rotationally symmetric surfaces. The surface has characteristics of asymmetric units, which require advanced machine kinematics for ultra-precision machining.
We have technical capabilities to realize freeform surfaces:
• with diameters of 1 - 300 mm
• with roughness (Ra) < 5 mm
• with derivations < 1 µm.
With a slow tool servo (STS) on an ultra precision turning machine, we perform diamond processing of polymers (PMMA, Zeonex, PC, PS) and metals (nickel - phosphorus, aluminum, copper, brass).
Some applications:
• Collimation of light
• Beam shaping
• Complex light distribution
• Complex luminance distribution
• Imaging
• Minimization of optical components in systems
• Head mounted displays (HMDs)
• Heads up displays (HUDs)
