The integrated starter generator (ISG), which is situated in the driveline between combustion engine and transmission does not require any additional bearing. A torsional vibration damper can also be integrated, if required. It is built into a robust aluminum housing; the unit is water-cooled.
The ISG can work as a generator, starter or in hybrid modes such as boosting and recuperation. In combination with the power converter GSR 170 it provides a stabilized high-level DC voltage in generator mode.
The ISG technology is based on permanent magnet synchronous machines. It provides an optimal power to weight ratio and maintenance free operation.
