The starter-generators of the Defense & Civil Systems division are mounted at the crank shaft between combustion engine and gear without any additional bearing.
They are water-cooled, permanent magnet synchronous machines with internal rotor. Cooling is provided by the vehicle's cooling circuit. The stator has a three-phase system. The generator is connected to a converter, which generates the intermediate circuit voltage of 750V by active rectification. Starting the engine is carried out through lead acid batteries combined with the on-board power supply or through energy storage (traction battery or double-layer capacitors).
