A Ground Power Unit (GPU) is needed to provide DC and/ or AC power supply for aircraft on the ground. They are used to start the engine and the APU (Auxiliary Power Unit) of the aircraft respectively - as well as for the on-board power supply. Brushless three-phase synchronous generators with directly mounted exciter are used as well as drive motors of the latest design.
They are air-portable and can be operated flexibly at different international locations. The power units are actuated by an electrical switchgear which contains all necessary protection, operating and monitoring components including the electronic control unit.
The power units are designed according to DFS400, respectively DIN EN 12312-20. Manufacturing and testing of the generators are done according to DIN EN 60034.
