The encounter with art opens up new resources for the company and the general public. We therefore see the necessity of creating a space for art. With our activities, we are allowing its identity-forming power and creative inspiration to find full expression. The core of Jenoptik’s commitment to art subsists in the in-house conception and organization of projects in the visual arts. Our exhibitions and projects have become living contributions to cultural life in the Jena/Weimar region.
Since the fall of 1994, Jenoptik has been holding exhibitions at its own facilities entitled “tangente”. We carry out larger projects together with partners of the city of Jena. Artistic subjects which touch on Jena’s lines of tradition are given special emphasis: light, technology, science, but also Romantic philosophy, Classic Modernism and the Bauhaus.

The title of the exhibition bridges the span of the 90 years which divide our time from the founding year of the historic Bauhaus. Five artists, professors of the Bauhaus University, responded to the invitation to jointly present works in Jena. It is striking that all of the artists who teach at the Bauhaus University work with multimedia. The works which can be seen in this exhibition therefore also make use of a broad repertoire of media and materials.

In the “Produkte ans Licht” (“products into the light”) exhibition, Jenoptik offers an insight into its areas of activity. For example, the visitor can find out how breaking points for airbags are manufactured with a laser or get acquainted with a sensor system which enables supply spaceships to dock with space stations. The exhibition rotates with the “tangente” art exhibition and thus effectively links the corporation’s business-technical and artistic commitments. Exhibition Space of JENOPTIK AG Carl-Zeiß-Straße 1, 07743 Jena. Opening hours: Mon-Thu 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Fri 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., entry free.
