The SF 217 is a brushless, liquid cooled DC generator for power supply and charging in military vehicles. The generator is cooled by the vehicle's oil or cooling water, thus independent of the ambient temperature.
It is mounted with a pivot arm onto the vehicle's motor and belt-driven. Rectifier, voltage controller and suppression of radio interference (EMC filter) are integrated.
As the rotor has neither winding nor slip rings, the generator works wear- and failure free, delivering extremely high rotational frequencies.
A CAN bus interface is integrated for controlling and monitoring all system functions. An active load dump protects the on-board power supply against overvoltage by limiting the generator voltage to max. 58 Volt.
