The air-cooled 8 kW Diesel APU is used for on-board power supply in vehicles when the main engine is not running. It charges batteries and any electrical consumer in the vehicle.

Scope of Application

APU for on-board power supply in military vehicles.

The APU is a unit consisting of a one-cylinder diesel motor and a permanent-magnet generator, which is mounted directly on the crankshaft of the motor. The generator is maintenance-free because of the so-called "flywheel" solution. The rectification of the generated current is realized by integrated diodes of the generator. This design allows for installation into small constructed sizes such as the battery compartment of the Leo 2 tank.
The APU can operate at extreme conditions. It is cooled by open-circuit circulation with a constant airflow to shield the generator against overheating. A device at the motor facilitates the start from cold state even at low ambient temperature.
