SPIE Startup Challenge
In addition to its own products and solutions, Jenoptik again focused on young entrepreneurs’ innovations in San Francisco. The Group continued the tradition of supporting the SPIE Startup Challenge, a competition of the international society for optics and photonics (SPIE), with expertise and cash prizes for the best three pitchers. At this event, young entrepreneurs from the field of optical technologies present their business ideas and products to an expert jury.
Taking first place was Cellino, a Harvard university team presenting nanodevices for cellular therapy, using lasers and nanotechnology to cure viral or genetic disease that affects the blood.
The second place was awarded IC Touch which allows blind or visually impaired people to “see” by translation of visual information captured by a camera to spatial tactile stimulation of their cornea.
The startup Lumedica came in third place with OQ Eyescope, an accessible and affordable medical imaging technology.
