Laser technology trends in automotive production

Automation

Automated production lines

Jenoptik processed a major order for three automated production lines from Gestamp, a Spanish manufacturer of metal automotive components.

The order included the design, manufacture and integration of the three automated production lines, each of which will use different welding and laser cutting technology to help manufacture complex car body parts for electric vehicles.

Process automation

A key element for Industry 4.0 is process automation. Automation processes reduce manual activities, which leads to an increase in both efficiency and quality. Laser-based technologies in particular offer flexible and, above all, fast benefits.

And light also plays a very important role here: A focused light or laser beam can process a wide range of materials.

Photonics meets artificial intelligence

Artificial Intelligence processes

See, recognize, assign – and do so as error-free as possible and in real time. The goal of many processes based on visual image recognition may sound as simple as this – whether for quality checks, evaluation of samples or the allocation or assignment of permits and rights, for example for access checks.

If artificial intelligence is added, this usually means that the speed increases or also the detection rate in the best case.
